I have been a Proactiv user for about 5 years, HOWEVER... I am slowly weaning myself off of the system currently because I am so against the idea of putting horrible chemicals onto my skin (as these soak through the layers of the skin and reach the bloodstream).
I began using the Proactiv system in about year 8 in high school due to oily/bumpy skin arising from the fluctuating hormones raging through my body that are expected during puberty! At this time, I was unaware of the chemical content of such products yet I understand that because I have been using the system for such an extended period that the Benzoyl Peroxide (main active ingredient) has become like a drug to my skin and hence I undergo the SLOW weaning off of these products to avoid a major reaction (think withdrawal symptoms!) which could see my face explode in a rash of acne.
I went through a similar experience in year 10. I had wanted to stop using the Proactiv system then due to its harsh effect it was having on my fair skin - I was consistently red and shiny (not exactly the best for my self esteem smack bang in the middle of my high school education!), so I thought I'd stop using the Benzoyl Peroxide instantly. BAD DECISION. After about 2-3 weeks of no Proactiv, my skin evolved literally overnight (as my Mum said - by the end of the school day it had changed completely, oil, bumps and redness included). It became worse and worse, developing a rash like formation of pimples (whiteheads, blackheads, painful cystic acne, and red painful pustules), around my mouth and all over my face. It was truly mortifying.
Looking back, I actually don't know how I faced school. People would stare at my face in horror, and once even in the local shopping centre, a young girl pointed and laughed at me! Now that's not a nice experience!
Anyway, all in all, I learnt the hard way that stopping a product so intense like Proactiv is not to be done cold turkey.
Now, on the topic of Organic Skincare. Once I am finished with Proactiv, I will be using KORA Organic skincare by Miranda Kerr. I currently (and have for the past year and a half) incorporated organic rosehip oil into my daily skin routine to amazing results. To name a few: oil/sebum production has been normalised (what!? you may say - but you're putting oil onto your face? Surely that's going to increase the oiliness of your face? But no - the beneficial properties and soothing properties of beautiful oils like rosehip oil work with your skin to normalise oil production whilst moisturising and nourishing your skin).
From the KORA Organics range, I will be using the Foaming Cleanser, Energising Citrus Mist and Soothing Day and Night Cream along with the Recovery Eye Gel. Exfoliating Cream and Rosehip oil.
I am super excited also for the release of their new products mid to late August!
KORA Organics stands for a lot of values that I agree with and appreciate immensely, and I cannot express how excited I am for my KORA products to be apart of my daily life.
Organic skincare is important because what you put on your skin is absorbed into your body. By using organic ingredients in skincare, the body can benefit from the natural vitamins, minerals, fatty acids and antioxidants (amongst others), found within the ingredients which protect and nourish the skin from the outside.
There are a huge number of organic skincare ranges around nowadays which pleases me greatly. I am loving this movement which seems to be becoming more and more widespread.
